If you’ve ever wished for a way to target those stubborn tiny pockets of fat that just won’t budge, no matter how much you diet or exercise, you’re not alone. For many of us, these areas can be a source of frustration, whether it’s a little fullness under the chin, an uneven abdomen, arms or bra-fat.

Aqualyx fat dissolving shots offer a way to sculpt and refine your contours without surgery or downtime. However, it is important to note that it is not a weight loss treatment and for larger pockets of fat such as "love handles" and "muffin tops" CoolSculpting typically offers a better solution.

Here, we’ll take you through everything you need to know about Aqualyx, so you can decide if it’s the right treatment for you.

What Is Aqualyx®?

Aqualyx is a specially formulated compound designed to dissolve small, stubborn areas of fat. It’s made from a compound called deoxycholic acid, a naturally occurring substance in the body that helps break down dietary fat. When injected directly into fat deposits, Aqualyx works by liquefying fat cells, which are then metabolised and flushed out through your body’s lymphatic system.

Unlike liposuction, which requires surgery and downtime, Aqualyx is a non-surgical alternative perfect for tackling those “hard-to-shift” small areas.

Which Areas Can Aqualyx® Treat?

Aqualyx is ideal for treating small, localised fat deposits. Common areas include:

  • Chin and jowls “double chin removal”
  • Abdomen definition
  • Flanks and thighs
  • Arms and bra-fat

It’s worth noting that Aqualyx isn’t a weight-loss treatment. Instead, it’s best suited for people who are close to their ideal weight but want to address specific areas of stubborn fat.

Benefits of Aqualyx®

Aqualyx has become a popular choice for many reasons:

  • Non-surgical: No need for general anaesthesia, incisions, or long recovery times.
  • Customisable: Tailored to target your unique areas of concern.
  • Minimal downtime: Most people can return to work and daily activities immediately after treatment.
  • Natural-looking results: Gradual fat reduction ensures a subtle, natural transformation.
  • Boosts confidence: Helps you feel more comfortable in your skin.

What Happens During the Treatment?

Aqualyx treatments are straightforward and quick, typically taking 30-60 minutes depending on the area being treated. Here’s what you can expect:

  1. Consultation: Your practitioner will assess the area you’d like to treat and discuss your goals. This is your opportunity to ask questions and ensure the treatment aligns with your expectations.
  2. Preparation: On the day of your treatment, the area will be cleaned and local anaesthetic may be applied to minimise discomfort.
  3. Injection: Aqualyx is injected directly into the fat deposit using a fine needle or cannula. The number of injections required depends on the size of the treatment area.

Post-Treatment Care

Immediately after your treatment, the treated area may appear red, swollen, and slightly bruised. This is a natural response as Aqualyx triggers an inflammatory reaction in the fat cells to break them down, which can result in swelling lasting 3-5 days.

If you’re considering facial treatments, such as addressing a double chin, it’s worth planning ahead and scheduling time away from work or social events, as the swelling may be noticeable.

To help reduce swelling, you can apply a cool pack wrapped in a clean cloth to the area for a maximum of 20 minutes daily. However, avoid using anti-inflammatory medications for the first 48 hours after your treatment, as these can interfere with the process.

It’s also normal for the treated area to feel tender or firm for up to 6 weeks as your body continues to metabolise the dissolved fat.

During recovery we recommend that you avoid:

  • Swimming pools, spas and saunas for 3 days.
  • Physical exercise for 10 days.
  • Any other aesthetic treatments for 2 weeks.

Who Is a Suitable for Aqualyx®?

Aqualyx is best for individuals close to their ideal weight with isolated pockets of fat who are seeking a non-surgical alternative to liposuction. It’s not suitable if you :

  • Are pregnant or breastfeeding.
  • Have a liver or kidney disease
  • Are taking blood thinning medication

Is Aqualyx® Safe?

Aqualyx has a 15 year safety track record and is safe when administered by a qualified practitioner who understand you medical history. That said, as with any medical procedure, there are some potential side effects, which are usually mild and resolve within a week, including:

  • Swelling, redness, bruising or tenderness at the injection site
  • A feeling of firmness in the treated area for up to 6 weeks

When do Results Show?

One of the most exciting aspects of Aqualyx is its ability to deliver noticeable, long-lasting results. Full results will show 6 weeks after your last sessions with the treated area appearing slimmer and more defined, helping you feel more confident in your body.

While individual experiences vary, most people see a visible reduction in fat after just 1-3 sessions for chin and jowls, and 2-8 sessions for larger areas such as flanks and thighs. All treatments should be spaced about 4-6 weeks apart.

Because Aqualyx works by breaking down fat cells, which your body then eliminates naturally, results are permanent as long as you maintain a healthy lifestyle. However, it’s important to remember that Aqualyx doesn’t prevent new fat from forming, so staying active and eating well will help maintain your new look.
