Frequently Asked Questions

After a microneedling what must I avoid?

After your needling treatment, to reduce the risk of infection, you must avoid for 12-24 hours:

  • Touching the treated areas with your fingers,
  • Wearing make-up.

Are CoolSculpting results permanent?

Yes, the fat cells removed by CoolSculpting are gone for good. However, maintaining a healthy diet and active lifestyle is essential to prevent weight gain in untreated areas.

Are dermapens safe?

Dermapen treatments are safe and effective when performed by a regulated clinic and qualified practitioners. Healthcare Improvement Scotland, inspects out clinic environment, products and staff credentials to meet approved standards, so you know you are in safe hands.

Are HA filler results like anti-wrinkle treatment results?

No, they work in completely different ways. HA fillers restore lost volume and elasticity in the skin, smoothing out static lines and folds by physically filling them. Unlike anti-wrinkle treatments, which relax muscles to reduce wrinkles and lines caused by movement.

Are HA fillers safe?

HA fillers are safe when administered by a qualified and experienced medical professional. Licensed fillers have a proven safety record, but as with any medical procedure complications can occur depending on the treatment area which are discussed at consultation.

Are my veins suitable for Sclerotherapy?

The key difference between thread veins and varicose veins is their size and appearance:

  • Thread Veins: Are small, red or blue, and appear close to the skin’s surface.
  • Varicose Veins: Are often dark purple or blue, and appear to bulge and twist. They may cause pain or itching.

A quick self-check for varicose veins involves standing for 1–2 minutes; bulging veins will typically appear.

Are polynucleotide treatments safe?

Yes, they are extremely safe. Polynucleotides are biocompatible and derived from natural sources, however they are unsuitable for people with:

  • Fish or shellfish allergies.
  • Autoimmune disease.
  • Vascular disease.
  • History of keloid scarring.

Are the Plasmage results permanent?

The results of Plasamage are long-lasting but not permanent, as your skin will continue to age naturally. We recommend maintenance treatments every 1-2 years to achieve natural looks that are appropriate for your age.

Are the polynucleotide results permanent?

While the results are long-lasting, they are not permanent. The natural aging process and environmental factors will continue to affect your skin and hair over time.

Are there any CoolSculpting risks?

CoolSculpting is a safe and well-researched procedure. Like all medical procedures there are risks - out of millions of patients treated a few have experienced prolonged numbness or a condition called paradoxical adipose hyperplasia, where the treated area becomes larger rather than smaller.

Can CoolSculpting be combined with other treatments?

Yes, Aqualyx fat dissolving injections can be used after CoolSculpting to target tiny areas to create a more defined result.

Can I get a discount if I only have a tiny scar?

The majority of the treatment cost reflects clinic overheads and the consumables required for the procedure. These expenses remain the same regardless of the size of the scar being treated, so discounts for small scars are not offered.

However, with your consent, your practitioner can use any remaining appointment time to treat other areas of your face for overall skin rejuvenation. This allows you to benefit not only from scar reduction but also from improved skin texture and health in the surrounding areas.

Can microneedling be performed with active acne?

No. You must wait until your acne is not active. Having a treatment whilst your acne is active could irritate your acne which can often be painful and leave your skin feeling sensitive.

Can polynucleotides be used for sensitive skin?

Yes, polynucleotides are gentle and suitable for sensitive skin. Their anti-inflammatory properties make them especially beneficial for calming irritation or redness.

Can Sculptra® improve acne scars?

Sculptra® is an excellent volumizing treatment but isn't specifically designed for acne scars. It’s injected deeper than the layers where acne scarring typically benefits. Treatments like microneedling or HA fillers may be more effective for improving acne scar texture.

Can Tixel® be combined with anit-wrinkle and HA filler treatments?

Yes, during your consultation your practitioner will create a tailored treatment plan to optimise results for your concerns which can combine other treatments?

Can Tixel® treat stretchmarks?

Can you have Botox and Profhilo® at the same time?

Yes, we frequently combine Botox and Profhilo® treatments in the same session. Together they can reduce wrinkles and create firmer skin for a more youthful appearance.

CryoSuccess vs CryoPen

The CryoSuccess uses a sterile glass tip, cooled by Nitrous Oxide, allowing great precision for treating skin lesions around the eye and intimate areas.

The CryoPen shoots a controlled jet of Nitrous Oxide gas directly onto the skin lesions making it less accurate for treating areas around the eye and intimate areas but faster for larger skin lesions on other body areas.

Cryosurgery vs Electrolysis

Both cryosurgery and electrolysis treatments can be used to remove benign lesions. Electrolysis uses a thermolysis current and a very fine needle to either cauterise or lift away the superficial epidermis which can be very uncomfortable. Cryosurgery is typically more comfortable and requires less appointments.

Do I have to pause vitamin A skincare during treatment?

Vitamin A, particularly in the form of retinoids (such as roaccutane or tretinoin), is known for its skin-renewing properties and is commonly used to treat various skin concerns, including acne, and uneven pigmentation. However, there are certain considerations when using vitamin A products like retinoids alongside laser treatments.

Skin Sensitivity and Risk of Irritation:
Vitamin A, especially in its more potent forms like prescription retinoids, can make the skin more sensitive and prone to irritation. Laser treatments, depending on the type and intensity, can also cause some level of skin irritation, redness, and peeling as part of the healing process. Using both retinoids and undergoing laser treatment simultaneously can increase the risk of severe skin irritation and potentially prolong the healing time.

Increased Risk of Side Effects:
Combining retinoids and laser treatments can potentially increase the risk of adverse side effects, such as burns, blisters, or changes in pigmentation. The combination of already sensitive skin due to retinoid use and the effects of the laser treatment can be too harsh for the skin to handle.

Disrupted Healing Process:
Laser treatments work by creating controlled damage to the skin's surface, which then triggers the body's natural healing response, including the production of new collagen. Using retinoids during the post-laser healing phase could interfere with this process and may not allow the skin to heal as effectively or efficiently as it should.

For this reason your aesthetician may ask you stop using vitamin A skincare for a specified time period pre and post laser or IPL treatment.

Do you recommend cryosurgery to treat pigmentation?

No, we recommend laser and IPL treatments to treat pigmentation as it is more effective.

Does CoolSculpting require me to follow a diet plan?

No. Candidates suitable for Coolsculpting are already close to their ideal weight with stubborn pockets of fat.

Does cryosurgery have and side effects?

Common temporary side effects include redness, swelling, blistering, or scabbing at the treatment site.

Rarely, hypopigmentation (lightening of the skin) or hyperpigmentation (darkening) may occur, particularly in individuals with darker skin tones.

Does microneedling hurt?

Skin needling for creating microchannels has minimal discomfort as the a maximum depth is below 1.5 mm. It can feel a bit scratchy, but your practitioner will vary the settings during treatment areas to maximise comfort.

For needling deeper than 1.5 mm your practitioner will apply a topical anaesthetic to minimise discomfort. For certain treatments a local anaesthetic block may be injected to ensure maximum comfort.

Does Profhilo® work like anti-wrinkle injections?

Anti-wrinkle injections target dynamic wrinkles caused by facial expressions, like crow’s feet or frown lines. In contrast, Profhilo® is focused on improving the overall quality of your skin, making it firmer and more elasticity - but it won't stop dynamic wrinkles. However, it works brilliantly in tandem with anti-wrinkle injections.

Does PRP hurt?

While the treatments are painless some aspects of the PRP application, such as injections around the eyes or the amount of blood visible, can cause anxiety, but our medical assistants will be on hand to comfort and calm you.

Does Sculptra make your face look fat?

Not at all. Sculptra is designed to restore natural volume and contour, not to create a puffy or overfilled appearance - often associated with poorly done dermal fillers. The gradual results allow for subtle enhancements that look like you—just refreshed. If administered correctly, it enhances facial structure without adding unnecessary bulk.

Does Ultherapy hurt?

While comfort levels vary, most patients find it tolerable. Your practitioner can adjust the intensity to make the experience as comfortable as possible. We will recommend over-the-counter pain relief to take before treatment.

Seek a consultation to determine the best solution for you. Typically IPL treatments are better in treating specific thread veins or spider veins where the IPL will remove the offending capillaries.

However, if you are a perimenopausal women then IPL on its own will not strengthen your skin barrier for long term results and so a treatment combination maybe a good solution.

For young men and women with mild facial redness a HydraFacial Platinum facial with the ZO Rozatrol booster is likely to be a good starting point.

Is our exosome serum ethically sourced?

The stem cells used to produce exosome serum are harvested from the umbilical cord of red deer which are free ranging, and organically and ethically raised, in New Zealand. The umbilical cord, which connects the calf to its mother, is typically discarded after birth.

While harvesting umbilical cords as “medical waste” does not involve any harm to mother or child. All mammals share similar signalling proteins, including those released by stem cells which are used to communicate with other cells. Red deer cord lining stem cell proteins used in exosome serum thus also have regenerative and restorative effects on human skin.

Yes - the major advantage of PRP is that it involves no foreign substances, because your own growth factors extracted from your own blood are used. Which means there is no risk of any disease transmission or allergic reaction.

Since 2009 medical research on the safety of PRP has been gaining momentum and now both the US FDA and UK's NICE regulatory bodies have confirmed that PRP treatments are safe.

PRP is used by some NHS trusts in accelerating recovery post operations. PRP is also widely used in sports medicine, with famous athletes such as Tiger Woods and Rafael Nadal benefitting from PRP treatments to sprained knees and chronic tendon injuries.

For this reason it is a great hydrating ingredient that creates natural looking results that dissolve over time, so you will continue to age naturally.

Stretch marks: RF vs Microneedling?

Microneedling is more effective than standalone RF for repairing skin damage from stretching, as the needles break down scar tissue and boost collagen production.

RF alone promotes skin tightening and collagen but doesn't address scar tissue, but is good at skin tightening. The best results are achieved when they are combined.

  1. Soak the lesion: Place the wart or verruca in a bowl of warm, soapy water for about 20 minutes.
  2. Gently exfoliate: Use a pumice stone or emery board to scrub the lesion lightly until the skin becomes rough. This helps the nitrous oxide penetrate deeper during the treatment, increasing the chances of successful removal.
